Ok, I have a question. What is it about Vegas that brings out the guilt in people? It is too funny. Some people are embarrassed to say that they have gone, some make sure we all know that they would NEVER gamble or drink and only go to shop or spa. Some people refuse to have a good time while they are there to make sure the rest of the folks know they do not approve. The comments are endless. People always hope they won't see anyone they know and they ALWAYS do. That should be a lesson to all of us. You can't go ANYWHERE without someone knowing you sooo always be on your best be "have"! :)
So here's MY take:
1. Yes, it's full of trash. But so is your t.v. and it's in your HOUSE. Grant it...you don't have to turn your t.v. on, however, most people do. :)
2 I will NEVER take my kids. Maybe when they are grown and have their OWN children which they can leave at home with a sitter...I'll think about it. (please remind me of this if it ever crosses my mind to take them... Luke will for SURE stay at home. Too much eye candy...which is a stretch to even call it candy!
3. We get free flights and some NICE hotels have $65 a night rates. That's cheaper than driving to Dallas to shop. Okay...so I let the cat out of the bag as to why I go.
4. My reasons for going: a) shopping (of course!) b) fun shows and good chow c) spa get-aways
This is a slightly different take than the one up top with the NEVER comment. :)
5. I do not make it a habit to gamble, and I'll tell you why. I prefer NOT to THROW away good cash at a smoky loud table when it can buy a great pair of shoes. :) I have been known to play a few rounds of "21" but what's the point? the dealer ALWAYS has the better hand and I might as well have lit a match to a $100 bill!
I have to add a funny story about how you will always see someone you know. One time my husband and I were staying at the PARIS but decided to visit the Bellagio. We were wandering about and ended up at the back of the casino looking for a restroom. Well what do you know? An old friend of Burt's happen to be walking out of the restroom as Burt was entering. (He lives in Dallas). He was not staying at the Bellagio either, just checking it out.
Hmmmm....crazy stuff. :) It keeps people on their toes, eh? I don't believe for a second what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. There are things such as cameras, friends who like to talk, and other people who know YOU, but you never noticed they were there until, say, the plane trip home*** And then there's that thing we call a conscience that follows us everywhere we go...
I have a good time when I go but just a 2 or 3 days is P-L-E-N-T-Y of time to just chill, shop, walk, (a billion miles because you think the next hotel is just "right down there, it can't be too far,") and then hop on a plan and run home and hug and kiss my kids because I missed them soooo much...and then they start fighting and screaming and pushing and shoving...and I think... I missed this? This is why I couldn't wait to get home? When's the next trip? :)

I'm a huge fan of Vegas. I'm with you, more than a couple of days is too much. I'm hoping Luke and I can go again in May.
I am with you...Scott and I went with friends several years back...much to the dismay of my southern baptist mom...and we visit the Hoover Dam....who do we see??? An elder and his wife from our church...what happens in Vegas NEVER stays in Vegas...I was done when we went down for breakfast at 7:30 am and there was a couple gambling...with their infant baby in the carseat on the floor next to the blackjack table....bless!! The shopping is excellent, the food over the top, but it is seedy and several days is enough!!! Glad I found your blog!
I could not agree more on Vegas. And you spoke to my heart when you mention throwing money down on shoes rather than on a table surrounded by gamblers. I have experienced this myself when I was on my honeymoon in the Bahamas. My husband gave me $200.00 to go play with in the casino while he sat a blackjack table. I immediately went to the duty free shop and bought a beautiful gold bracelet. I have not been back to the Bahamas and my husband has been gone for almost 12 years - but I still have the beautiful gold bracelet! Given the choice again, I will always pick jewelry!!!
