I call the mom, let her know, and I feel all good about myself that I remembered because sometimes kids are out, and the moms forget to tell us, and then we buy extra lunches for kids that aren't even at school! Not fun...and a waste of money, right? O.K. moving ahead to 2:30 pick-up to get my daughter who WAS at school today. She hops in the car and I say, "o.k., tell me the worst thing that happened today and the best thing that happened." So she says, "well, I think the worst thing would be that we didn't get any lunch today!" (eeeeerrrrrrrrrrkkkkk) That's my car screeching to a halt! :) "why not?" I ask. She says, "Well "suzy's" mom forgot to bring it. She went out of town! (I'm protecting the innocent here so I'm changing her name.) Ha ha!
I said, "Woaaaaaa...she's going out of town NEXT week! I wrote it down on my calender because I am the one who is supposed to bring lunch for her while she is gone!!!!!" Well, needless to say, guess who flaked out and was supposed to bring the lunch??? ME!!! I got the dates all messed up.
The irony in this whole charade is that I thought I was being so good and clever by calling to make sure Luke didn't get a lunch bought for him ... and all the while the girls in my daughter's class are all STARVING because of me! Nice. Really nice. So, I guess I'll try to make it up to them THIS week and bring an extra treat or dessert or something. Yeah, that will make up for starving them last friday. Sure. I'll keep telling myself that. Nothing a little sugar can't cover, eh? :)
