Getting lost

What is the deal with me and maps? I can't go anywhere out of town and not get lost! Let me give you a few examples: ok, last year I was in Missouri for a Write About Jesus conference. I flew in, got into my rental...oh...and by the way, my husband reserved a cadillac for me and I thought the nice Buick parked outside the door was the cadillac so I drove off in it. :) Yep. Ok, moving on...so I pull out of the airport and it takes me 2 hours to find a church that was 15 minutes down the road.
Fast forward to an event in Dallas. I have my handy little GPS talking lady device and still manage to get myself lost trying to find the expressway. The irony is that even though she was taking me to all these weird back roads and I kept turning around thinking she was wrong...well, she was right. When I finally just did what she said, "wa-la" there was the interstate!
This summer coming back from the lake I took a wrong turn off I-20 to the loop exit and found myself down a creepy dark deserted road. This is in my own town.
Now to this past weekend heading to Austin. Again...I wasn't even out of MIDLAND before I got lost! I took the wrong turn to Garden City or whatever that exit is to Austin and I'm just driving down a road that has no signs that match the one on my map. 30 minutes later and a raging husband to boot, I turn around and find that I should have driven through the intersection and THEN turned right. Well...that's NOT what the stupid mapquest said!! :)
Ok...so...I get to Austin in 5 hours. No problem. So coming home I'm thinking I've got this thing in the bag. I leave around 4:00 and around 6:30 I'm seeing signs to El Dorado. Hello??? El Dorado is NOT on the mapquest! Where did I miss my turn??? So I drove for two hours straight with practically no sign of life and no gas station, no potty, no nothing!!! Good thing I filled up before I left or I would have been hosed! Sooo...I get home an hour and half later than I should have. All my husband can say to me is: You have no business being on the road out there alone. Hmmm...well then hop in the car and go with me why don't you? :)
