Just another day at the pool...

So, I've been CRAZY out of town this summer. We have been to the lake, GA, the lake...the lake...ha ha. So tonight is the first night we have gone to our club's swimming pool. The kids have been BEGGING me to go so...we go. See lots of friends, have a few chats, save a few lives...Yep, that's right. I jumped in the pool TWICE to save lives and I'm not even the lifeguard, hello! The first was my own child (oops). Ok, here's the scenario: She has a swim vest, her "ducky" we call it b/c it is, well, a duck. So she has been in swim lessons ALL spring so I'm thinking, "what the heck, swim a little without mr. ducky." So she's paddling around in the 3 foot water and her head is just above. Ok~ just to clarify, I'm talking about Jill, my just turned 4 year old. OK, back to the story: She starts playing with the big kids and next thing you know she has waded off into say...4 foot deep waters. She is panicking and looking around for help and her big brother is right there paying NO attention to her...so...like any decent mother, I jump in and grab her. :) Where were the 2 lifeguards while this was going on? Oh yeah, visiting with the long-haired juvenile boys that are flirting with them. But I digress.
So, drowning averted, we have now moved to the deep, deep, deep end where Jill is jumping off the diving board (with Mr. Ducky) and I'm chatting with my friend right there and while I'm chatting a cute little 5 or 6 year old jumps off the diving board and is now panicking and going up and down...head up...head under...eyes as big as saucers... and I'm looking at her and...BAM...Pamela Anderson to the rescue (I wish) AGAIN! I jump in grab the little cutie, my sunglasses go flying off, I haul her to the side and the Grandmother is just overwhelmed with gratitude and a bit guilty that I jumped in before she did...but the kicker is the LIFEGUARD! HELLO???? She wasn't even watching!!! Then she looks over at us while we are recovering from another near-death experience and gives me a look of, "well...she wasn't REALLY drowning..." or " why did YOU jump...I'm right here". Not really sure WHAT she was thinking but I'll tell you right now that I'm not going to share the unkind thoughts about HER that I was thinking!!! She didn't even say thank-you for me doing her job??? But the mom did. So I'm fine. :) and the grandmom was pretty grateful as well.
All in a days work. :)
p.s. ya know...I did lifeguard as a college kid. The most BORING job in the world. Guess it paid off 25 years later! :)
